Hong Kong Post reminds residents that the main postage rates will be adjusted starting from the 13th of this month (Monday). For local letters weighing 30 grams or less, the postage will be adjusted from HK$2.2 to HK$2.4. If the postage is insufficient, delivery will be delayed, and an additional fee will be required.

For air mail letters, the postage for sending to Mainland China and Taiwan for 20 grams or less will be adjusted from the current HK$3.7 to HK$3.9, while the postage for sending to other regions will be adjusted from HK$4 to HK$5.5 to between HK$4.2 and HK$5.8, depending on the destination.

For ordinary surface mail letters, the postage for sending to Mainland China, Macau, and Taiwan for 20 grams or less will be adjusted from the current HK$2.8 to HK$3, while the postage for sending to other regions will be adjusted from between HK$3.5 and HK$5.3 to between HK$3.7 and HK$5.6, depending on the destination.

The last increase in postage was September 2022

The last increase in postage was in September 2022. A Hong Kong Post spokesperson explained that, to make up for continually rising operating costs—especially for major cost items, including shipping charges and terminal fees, which have increased—there is a need to adjust postage rates periodically. The increases in each individual postage rate roughly reflect the cumulative inflation from September 2022 to January 2026.

Overall, for local mail and ordinary surface mail, more than 90% of postage increases are within two dollars’ worth; for air mail letters, around 90% of postage increases are within five dollars’ worth. It is believed that the impact of the increases on residents and the business community will be very minimal.
