(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday urged an immediate cessation of regional hostilities during a phone conversation with Nechirvan Barzani, the president of Iraq’s Kurdish Regional Government (KRG).

According to reports, Erdogan expressed his condolences to Barzani over the recent attack on his residence. He also stressed that Ankara has consistently opposed such assaults and that ongoing conflicts in the region should be halted without delay.

The attack coincides with heightened tensions in the region following a joint US-Israeli offensive against Iran on February 28, which has resulted in the deaths of more than 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Tehran has since launched multiple drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US forces, causing casualties, damaging infrastructure, and disrupting both global markets and aviation.
