ChainCatcher message: Aztec Network, a privacy chain backed by a16z, has officially launched Alpha Network, becoming the first Ethereum Layer 2 to feature a complete privacy-enabled smart contract execution environment. Previously, it passed the community governance vote unanimously.

Aztec integrates privacy across three layers: privacy data supports confidential transactions and RWA transfers; privacy identity enables selective disclosure to meet compliance requirements; privacy computation hides on-chain activity, opening up space for privacy DeFi and game applications. Smart contracts are written in a Rust-style language, Noir. Privacy logic runs on the user side and generates zero-knowledge proofs, with settlement completed on Ethereum about every 12 seconds.

However, this launch comes with major warnings. Aztec disclosed known serious security vulnerabilities, and the audit work is still ongoing. The team advises users to deposit only funds they can afford to lose.
