The US and Iran are engaging in in-depth negotiations through multiple channels, with a high chance of reaching a ceasefire agreement before Tuesday.
According to Bloomberg on April 6, U.S. President Trump stated in a phone interview that the U.S. is conducting "intensive negotiations" with Iran, and an agreement is expected to be reached before the Tuesday deadline.
Trump said there is a high chance of reaching an agreement between the US and Iran but also warned that if no agreement is reached, all targets within Iran will be destroyed.
During the interview, Trump revealed that his special envoy is engaged in intensive talks with Iran. Both sides are maintaining ongoing communication on relevant issues, with the negotiation pace relatively tight, and the contacts have entered a substantive stage.
Sources involved in the negotiations disclosed that this communication employs a multi-channel approach, involving intermediaries from countries like Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey, as well as direct contact between Trump’s advisors and Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi.
Trump stated that the current progress of negotiations with Iran is smooth but also admitted that there is still a possibility of failing to reach a consensus. He also revealed that the two sides had previously been close to finalizing a direct negotiation agreement, but Iran ultimately proposed delaying the meeting by five days.
This delay has led Trump to question Iran’s sincerity, believing that the other side lacks a serious attitude toward negotiations, and he subsequently ordered military strikes on Iranian bridges to pressure Iran.
When asked whether he is worried that the strikes might harm innocent civilians, Trump said that the opposition to Iran’s current government among the people would support such military actions, believing it would help weaken the Iranian regime.
He also reiterated his previous hardline stance, explicitly warning that if Iran does not meet the U.S. demands before the deadline this Tuesday, it will face more severe consequences.
