Trump: Ending the Iran conflict in "two or three weeks" or so, and being "irresponsible" about the Strait of Hormuz
Xinhua Washington, March 31 (Reporter Huang Qiang, Xu Jianmei) U.S. President Trump said to the media on March 31 at the White House when signing an executive order that the United States could end its military operations against Iran within two to three weeks.
“We’re going to evacuate soon,” Trump said. “I think it’s about two or three weeks. We will leave because there’s no reason for us to keep doing this.”
Trump said he has only one goal: that Iran cannot have nuclear weapons, “and that goal has already been achieved.” U.S. forces are completing the final tasks. “I think it could be finished within two weeks—maybe a few more days.”
Trump also said that if an agreement is reached with Iran, perhaps the fighting could end even sooner. But even if the United States does not reach an agreement with Iran, the fighting can still end: “If they’re willing to sit down and talk, that’s fine. But it doesn’t matter whether they come or not.”
Regarding restoring navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said the United States does not have to be responsible for the Strait of Hormuz. “We have nothing to do with that.” “That is the responsibility of all the countries that need to use this strait.”
