The United States announces a 100% tariff increase on imported patented drugs and pharmaceutical ingredients.

Xinhua News Agency, New York, April 2 (Reporter Liu Yanan, Xu Jing): The White House announced on April 2 that U.S. President Donald Trump signed a document that day, under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, according to which the U.S. will impose an additional 100% tariff on imported patented drugs and pharmaceutical ingredients. This measure also provides a path for exemptions or tariff reductions, with the aim of pressuring pharmaceutical companies to reach agreements with the White House on drug prices and the reshoring of the industry, among other issues.
