Last year, I sponsored a college student named Xiao Yu. He said both his parents had died, and he lived with his grandmother—so he couldn’t even scrape together enough for living expenses.

I transferred 2,000 to him every month, bought him a computer and clothes, and treated him like a real younger brother. Even though my own salary was only 6,000, I still tightened my belt to help him.

As it turned out, last week I got my pay docked for a work mistake, and I only sent him 1,000 that month. He immediately cursed at me: “You’re so stingy! My classmates all have iPhone 15, and I’m still stuck with an old phone. You’re making me lose face!”

Even more ridiculous, he told his roommate that I’m a “big sucker,” and even flipped through photos of me buying skincare products, saying that I “have money to buy luxury stuff but won’t help him.”

I stopped the sponsorship, and he actually ran to my company to cause trouble, saying I’m “fake good-hearted”—pretended kindness!

I really can’t wrap my head around it. The kindness I gave with all my heart—how did it turn into his capital for greed?

Family, tell me—after this, would you still dare to help others casually?
