Middle East Situation | Iran Warns the U.S.: May Block the Strait of Malacca as Retaliation

Iran’s top leader’s foreign affairs adviser, Ali Akbar Velayati, warned the United States that if it makes further mistakes, the Iran-led Resistance Front will use a blockade of the Bab al-Mandeb Strait as a countermeasure.

In a post on social media, Velayati said, “The unified command of the Resistance Front views the Bab al-Mandeb Strait the same way as the Strait of Hormuz. If the White House makes another foolish mistake, it will quickly realize that with just one action, global energy and trade flows will be disrupted.”

The Bab al-Mandeb Strait connects the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, serving as a key passage linking the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, and the Indian Ocean. This strait is within the areas controlled by Yemen’s Houthi forces. Some media believe that Velayati’s post is a response to the threat that U.S. President Trump made toward Iran that day.

Trump’s post again called on Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz and warned that “April 7 will be Iran’s power-plant day and bridge day,” implying that he intends to launch a massive bombing of Iran’s power plants and bridges.
