I just read something interesting about Inscriptions on Bitcoin that has me thinking. The issue is that Nick Szabo, one of the most influential cryptographers in the space, has been strongly questioning this trend of using the Bitcoin blockchain to store images and files.

What Nick Szabo suggests makes sense from a certain perspective. Bitcoin was fundamentally designed as an electronic money protocol, not as a general data storage system. When the whole trend of Inscriptions started, allowing data to be embedded in individual satoshis, new possibilities opened up, but also new problems.

The main concern raised by Nick Szabo is quite serious: what happens if someone embeds illegal content into the blockchain? We're talking about something immutable, permanent forever. That could lead to severe regulatory pressure on the entire network. It’s the kind of scenario that keeps developers awake.

There’s also the issue of protocol integrity. Szabo warns that expanding Bitcoin beyond its original financial purpose could compromise what makes it special. It’s not just a technical opinion; it’s a reflection on where the ecosystem is headed.

Personally, I believe Nick Szabo has valid reasons. Inscriptions are innovative, no doubt, but they also pose a risk that shouldn’t be ignored. The question is whether the community is willing to accept those potential consequences.
