South Korea plans to increase the share of renewable energy generation to 20%
The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment of South Korea announced on the 6th that South Korea plans to increase the share of electricity generation from renewable energy to at least 20% by 2030 in order to reduce its heavy dependence on imported energy and to address rising power demand driven by the development of high-end industries. Under this plan reported by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment to the Cabinet meeting, South Korea will vigorously expand solar and wind power generation, increasing the scale of renewable energy power supply to 100 gigawatts by 2030 and gradually shutting down 60 coal-fired power plants by 2040. Last year, renewables accounted for 11.4% of South Korea’s total electricity generation nationwide. (Xinhua)
