On March 25, in response to a rumor that left someone from the Xinda Securities Research Institute, who serves as the head of energy research, had been reported to by a subordinate and that the matter involved indecent conduct, Xinda Securities’ relevant official told a reporter from The Paper: “The company has noticed the situation being circulated online. At present, it has paused all work by Left Someone and has initiated an internal investigation, and will actively cooperate with the relevant work of public security authorities.”

Publicly available information shows that Left Someone, a PhD, graduated from China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing). He previously served as the deputy director-general of the Industry Consultation Division of the China Coal Industry Association (in charge of work) and has been engaged in research and consulting in coal and energy-related fields for more than ten years. He joined Xinda Securities in 2016, has been responsible for the Greater Energy sector research since 2019, and led the team to win numerous awards in the research field. In July 2025, Left Someone was appointed as the head of the Research Institute of Xinda Securities.

According to information on the website of the China Securities Association (CISA), Left Someone’s practice registration institution is Xinda Securities, with his registration category listed as general securities business. On July 30, 2018, Left Someone’s registration category at Xinda Securities was changed to securities investment consulting (analyst). As of the time of this release, Left Someone’s registration status at Xinda Securities is still shown as normal.

Earlier, according to a report from Xin Huanghe, the whistleblower said she claimed to have joined Xinda Securities Research Institute in 2023 and is currently an associate researcher. In her letter, she detailed what happened on the evening of March 24: Left Someone required her to accompany him to Shanghai by saying he was traveling for a business trip to attend a meeting. After a dinner the same night ended, in the car on the way back to the hotel where he would stay, he touched her first, saying “You look very tense, relax,” and then he reached toward her intimate area. The involved party pushed him away twice; he repeated “relax” twice and then reached out again.

After arriving at the hotel, Left Someone, in front of multiple people, pulled her and demanded, “Go back to my room.” After she refused, he forcibly grabbed her waist and shoved her into the back seat of a taxi parked outside the hotel. The woman fought desperately in the car and shouted for help. Left Someone attempted to calm her by saying “It’s just a shot,” and that line made her even more panicked.

The turning point came at the entrance of a holiday hotel—an on-duty security guard intervened in time, controlling Left Someone from behind. The woman then took the opportunity to break free, ran into a nearby hot pot restaurant with many people, and asked the staff to help her hide in a safe place. After that, she reported the incident to the police and learned from the police that Left Someone had been brought under control with the assistance of the security guards.

At the end of the whistleblower letter, the involved party wrote that she had completed a detailed transcript at the police station. The hotel security guard and the hot pot restaurant staff can both serve as third-party witnesses, and the monitoring footage in the relevant public areas is being processed. “I am responsible for every single word of the above statements, and I do not accept any form of private settlement from within.”

What was circulated in parallel with the whistleblower letter was a “Case (Incident) Receipt of Report” issued by the Weifang Xincun Police Station of the Pudong Branch of the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau, with the number showing 2026. The receipt records that at 1:07:41 a.m. on March 25, 2026, the person who reported the incident called the police, stating that while riding a car on the way to the Holiday Hotel at 899 Dongfang Road, Pudong New Area, she was sexually harassed by Left Someone. After arriving at the hotel, he continued to tug at her, attempting to take her back to a room; when the car was parked in the hotel’s parking lot, she struggled and shouted for help after being shoved into a taxi. She then left with the assistance of the Holiday Hotel’s security guards and reported to the police. After the officers arrived on the scene, they took Left Someone away for investigation. The names of persons, locations, and matters stated in the receipt closely match the whistleblower letter.

In the letter, the involved party also mentioned that before the incident, she had always believed that Left Someone was “a respected and upright good leader who takes good care of subordinates,” which is also why this matter has been so shocking to her. She admitted that she is a young employee who joined Xinda Securities right after graduating in 2023. She chose to speak publicly in order to protect her rights and also to prevent the same thing from happening to someone else again.
