Interest Rate Decision | Reserve Bank of New Zealand Maintains Rate at 2.25%

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand kept the policy rate unchanged at 2.25%, in line with expectations. The New Zealand dollar against the U.S. dollar previously rose to 0.5804, up 1.49%.

In the policy statement, it said that the situation in the Middle East has driven a sharp rise in oil prices and is expected in the short term to push inflation higher, while the pace of economic recovery will slow. The extent of the inflation increase will depend on how the Middle East conflict evolves, as well as the degree of disruption to global supply chains and energy markets and how long it lasts.

The committee will closely watch the inflation trend and stand ready to take rate-hike action to bring inflation back to its 2% medium-term target.
