Just went down a rabbit hole looking at state income data and found something interesting. Turns out your paycheck varies wildly depending on where you live and how old you are. Like, I was checking out average salary in Illinois by age, and the numbers show people in their peak earning years (45-64) are pulling in around $92k+, while young folks just starting out are looking at roughly $39-40k. That's a pretty steep climb.
What caught my eye is how different states stack up. Some places like Massachusetts and Maryland have way higher median incomes across all age groups, while states like Mississippi and West Virginia are significantly lower. For the 25-44 crowd specifically, the range is insane - from around $58k in some states to over $108k in others. Even more wild, baby boomers in Hawaii are doing better than Gen Z in most other places.
Generation X still has the highest salaries overall according to the data, but it's not evenly distributed. Made me realize location really is everything when it comes to earning potential. If you're curious how your state and age group stack up, the differences are pretty eye-opening.
