Just realized how insanely expensive Hawaii actually is when you break down the costs. Like, a family of four is looking at $13k for a week? That's wild. But here's the thing - there are actually some solid places like Hawaii with the same vibes but way less damage to your wallet.
I've been looking into alternatives and Cancún keeps coming up. You get those turquoise waters, tropical weather year-round, and decent nightlife. A solo trip runs about $1,100, couples around $2k, families maybe $3,700 for the week. Pretty reasonable compared to Hawaii honestly.
Then there's Puerto Rico - which is kind of a hidden gem since you don't even need a passport if you're American. Similar beach and rainforest setup to Hawaii, waterfalls included. Running about $1,500 solo, $2,300 for two people. Definitely cheaper and feels like less of a hassle.
Oh and Tahiti's actually doable if you're smart about it. Most people think it's crazy expensive but if you go during low season (December-February) and book Airbnbs instead of hotels, you can find packages bundled with flights and meals starting around $2,500-$3,500 for the week. Black sand beaches, lagoons, the whole paradise experience.
Honestly any of these places like Hawaii give you that tropical escape without bleeding your savings account dry. Has anyone actually done one of these instead of Hawaii? Curious how it compares.
