The State Administration for Market Regulation plans to publicly solicit opinions on banning "Fresh Light"
People’s Finance News, April 8—A reporter learned today that the State Administration for Market Regulation has recently drafted the “Announcement by the State Administration for Market Regulation on Strictly Prohibiting the Use of ‘Fresh-Food Lights’” (Draft for Comment). It is now open to the public to solicit comments. According to the “Consumer Rights and Interests Protection Law of the People’s Republic of China” and the “Measures for Supervision and Administration of Quality and Safety of Edible Agricultural Products Sold in the Market,” consumers have the right to know the true information about the goods they purchase or use, or the services they receive. When selling fresh edible agricultural products, sellers may not use lighting and other facilities that mislead consumers about a product’s sensory perception by causing obvious changes to sensory characteristics such as the true color and other aspects of edible agricultural products. Recently, the State Administration for Market Regulation found through monitoring that some market sellers are still using lighting and other facilities, such as specific light sources and color-enhancing lights for meats, vegetables, fruits, and other fresh edible agricultural products, to deceive and mislead consumers about their true sensory characteristics. This disrupts market order and endangers food safety. (CCTV News)
