The Ministry of Foreign Affairs firmly opposes armed attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities that are under safeguards and supervision by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Ma Ning, at a regular press conference on March 31, following recent U.S. and Israeli military actions that attacked Iran’s heavy water facilities, the armed attack targeted peaceful nuclear facilities under international Atomic Energy Agency safeguards supervision, violating the purposes of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the Statute of the International Atomic Energy Agency. It seriously undermines the authority of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, weakens efforts to maintain the international nuclear nonproliferation system, and could bring serious consequences to regional peace, security, and stability.
Ma Ning said that China firmly opposes this and calls for a peaceful resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue through political and diplomatic means. She urged all parties to remain calm and exercise restraint, and to avoid further escalation of tensions. (Xinhua)
