Middle East Situation | Beijing: Welcomes the ceasefire agreement reached between the US and Iran
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a regular press briefing that upon the United States and Iran announcing a ceasefire, China welcomes the announcement by the relevant parties of a ceasefire arrangement, and China supports the mediation efforts made by countries such as Pakistan.
She emphasized that China has consistently advocated bringing about an immediate ceasefire and ending the fighting, resolving disputes through political and diplomatic means, and ultimately achieving lasting peace and stability in the Middle East and the Gulf region. China has also made its own efforts toward this end.
China has long been urging reconciliation and promoting talks, hoping the Strait of Hormuz will return to normal operations as soon as possible
Asked whether China had ever made a clear demand to Iran, hoping it would agree to some form of ceasefire framework, Mao Ning stressed that China has been actively encouraging reconciliation and promoting talks, working to help put out the fires of war.
Regarding reports from foreign media that Iran and Oman would collect transit fees for the Strait of Hormuz, Mao Ning pointed out that the Strait of Hormuz is an important international route for goods and energy trade. Safeguarding the security and stability and keeping the region’s waterways open and flowing is in line with the common interests of the international community. China hopes that all parties will work together to help the strait resume normal passage as soon as possible.
