On April 8, 2026, on the occasion of Xi’an Jiaotong University’s 130th anniversary and the 70th anniversary celebration of its westward migration, the “Baidu Xiaoman – Xi’an Jiaotong University Artificial Intelligence Joint Research Center” was officially upgraded to the “Baidu Xiaoman – Xi’an Jiaotong University Artificial Intelligence Joint Research Institute.” The institute will focus on cutting-edge topics including agent self-evolution, the application of multimodal large models in small and micro finance, an AI-native financial intelligent computing foundation, and big-data multivariable learning, systematically addressing the key issues faced by AI-native finance at the level of data, models, and agents.

That afternoon, Xi’an Jiaotong University and Baidu Xiaoman held the launch ceremony for the Artificial Intelligence Joint Research Institute and the second-phase topic seminar. Attending were Liang Li, Party Secretary of the School of Electronics and Information Engineering at Xi’an Jiaotong University; Sun Hongbin, Vice Dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence; Zhang Xingjun, Dean of the School of Computer Science and Technology; Zhu Guang, CEO of Baidu Xiaoman; Zhang Wenbin, CTO of Baidu Xiaoman; and others.

Zhu Guang said, “The joint research center established by both parties in 2021 has achieved remarkable results by applying artificial intelligence to user data analysis and business insights. After upgrading from the research center to a research institute, we will continue to increase investment; the institute’s total investment is expected to be three times that of the first-phase research center.”

At the seminar, members of the project team introduced the research content and research plans for core projects such as “multimodal operational insights and risk perception technologies for small and micro finance” and “research on key technologies for agent self-learning and self-evolution in high-reliability financial scenarios.”

It is understood that the industry-university-research cooperation between Xi’an Jiaotong University and Baidu Xiaoman has a long history. Since 2021, Xi’an Jiaotong University and Baidu Xiaoman have jointly built the “Baidu Xiaoman – Xi’an Jiaotong University Artificial Intelligence Joint Research Center,” carrying out in-depth collaboration on topics such as big-data risk control, data storage, and data system architecture. The high-performance big-data analysis architecture jointly developed by both sides has been fully applied to various data analysis scenarios in financial business, shortening the average time for business data analysis by 40% and significantly improving business insight efficiency and decision-response speed; data storage cost optimization has exceeded 15%, greatly improving resource utilization efficiency while ensuring stability.

On the eve of this year’s anniversary celebration, Xi’an Jiaotong University and Baidu Xiaoman held a signing ceremony for their strategic cooperation in artificial intelligence.
