ABC News: Trump proposes a "joint venture" cooperation with Iran in the Strait of Hormuz
Odaily Planet Daily reports that while U.S. President Trump was being interviewed by ABC News on Wednesday, he said the United States may seek to pursue “joint ventures” with Iran in the Strait of Hormuz to ensure the strait’s security. Earlier, on Tuesday, Trump announced a two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran.
When asked whether he would allow Iran to charge tolls to ships passing through this strategic waterway, Trump said he is considering ensuring the security of the strait through a joint venture approach. Trump also said he would not allow Iran to retain any uranium enrichment capability, and said U.S. forces in the region would not withdraw, remaining in place to carry out future agreements. Trump said he expects peace talks to begin on Friday and move quickly forward, while also confirming that China has played a key role in communications with Iran.
Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the possibility of safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz could be made possible by coordinating with Iran’s armed forces and taking technical limitations into account.
