Is this another story? Rei Kokubun, claiming to be a time traveler from 2058, is making headlines. Online, he's being called "Japan's strongest future person," and if that's true, it's incredibly fascinating. He's said to have predicted the number of gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics, the crash of the Nikkei average in March 2020, and the timing of Prime Minister Abe's resignation.
According to Rei Kokubun, he was born in 2034 and studied architecture in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo. He supposedly arrived in the present via a spacetime teleportation device in December 2019. Scientific evidence? Zero. But he gained popularity through a series of predictions on social media.
What’s particularly interesting is his story about cryptocurrencies. Rei Kokubun claims that between December 2019 and early 2020, he purchased about 1,400 Ethereum in large quantities. He stored them in a hardware wallet, buried it in his parents’ yard, and plans to dig it up in 2058. He chose Ethereum over Bitcoin because the Ethereum ecosystem offers more application opportunities and higher growth potential.
But here’s where it gets strange. According to Rei Kokubun, by 2058, Bitcoin will have reached an extremely high price, but the market will be in a state where "you can only sell and cannot buy." It’s said to possibly reach 780 million yen (about $4.94 million). In other words, there’s a chance to buy Bitcoin now. Supporters are excited about this.
However, there’s debate among researchers about whether his past predictions have truly come true or if they are just retrofitted or based on luck. Some point out that predictions about economic downturns or political changes can be inferred from current economic trends and rumors. Rei Kokubun mentions that future developments include stock markets, pandemics, politics, earthquakes, infectious diseases, and cryptocurrency trends, but the scientific community and media remain largely skeptical. Even within Japan, some voices suggest he might be using vague hints to attract user interest.
From an investor’s perspective, experts say that if you want to follow Rei Kokubun’s "future value," you first need to assess your own risk tolerance. His statement that "Bitcoin can only be sold" could potentially lead to excessive speculation or panic selling. Since 2024, the prices of Bitcoin and Ethereum have fluctuated significantly due to factors like U.S. elections and ETF approvals. Investors should stay calm amid the hype.
Ultimately, whether Rei Kokubun is a genuine future person or just a publicity stunt remains a mystery. It might be an interesting media story for the crypto world, but for some followers, it’s a guide to a prophet. Whether to believe in future information is another matter; what’s important is individual judgment and risk management in investing. There might be time travelers out there, or this could just be an elaborate stage play. We can only watch how the market and reality unfold.
