The Lighthouse Pro Edition data shows that as of 17:00 on April 6, the total box office for the 2026 Qingming Festival holiday season reached RMB 289 million.《The Super Mario Bros. Movie》《Me, Xu Ke》《A Rescue Plan》《The Genius Game》《My goodness》rank in the top five by box office for the release period. Among them, the animated film《The Super Mario Bros. Movie》became the box-office champion for the Qingming Festival holiday season, with box office exceeding RMB 60 million during the release period.

Fueled by the box office performance of the Qingming Festival holiday season, the national box office in China for 2026 reached RMB 12.263 billion. As of now, the top ten films by box office in 2026 are respectively《Hi, Mom! 3》《Biao Ren: Wind Rises over the Vast Desert》《Silent Shock》《Boonie Bears: Year after Year》《The Panda Plan: A Tale of Tribe Adventure》《Night King》《A Rescue Plan》《The River Rat Transformation Plan》《Return to Silent Hill》《Burst Water Pipe》。

According to platform forecasts, the two potential films in the Qingming Festival holiday season—《The Super Mario Bros. Movie》和《Me, Xu Ke》—will ultimately reach RMB 185 million and RMB 153 million in box office, respectively. By then, the two films will replace《Return to Silent Hill》and《Burst Water Pipe》to enter this year’s box-office top ten list.

As of April 6, the top 6 spots on the annual box-office chart are all films released during the Spring Festival holiday. More than a month after the Spring Festival holiday ended, the domestic film market has not seen any film break through the RMB 200 million box-office mark. Currently, the imported sci-fi film《A Rescue Plan》has reached RMB 199 million, making it also the first film after the Spring Festival period that is expected to clear the RMB 200 million box-office threshold. The platform predicts the film’s final box office could reach RMB 268 million.

Judging from the average ticket price of films in the Qingming Festival holiday season, the average ticket price for《A Rescue Plan》is RMB 45.6, far higher than《The Super Mario Bros. Movie》at RMB 40.9 and《Me, Xu Ke》at RMB 34.2. It is also higher than the overall average ticket price of RMB 38.6 for the Qingming Festival holiday season.

Why can《A Rescue Plan》be the film with the strongest momentum after the Spring Festival holiday? “On the one hand, sci-fi films have accumulated a large audience base, while in the past two years the supply of domestically produced sci-fi films with high reputations has been in a blank state; on the other hand, after《A Rescue Plan》was released, word of mouth has continued to rise. The dual advantages of genre and word of mouth allow the film’s box office to keep climbing.” A relevant executive from a film company told《Securities Daily》reporters.

When discussing the market box-office performance from after the Spring Festival holiday through the Qingming Festival holiday season, Yang Huaiyu, a senior research fellow at Shanghai XiaZhi LiangShi Consulting & Management Co., Ltd., told《Securities Daily》reporters that after the Spring Festival holiday, film box office is generally around RMB 100 million, mainly due to two factors: first, after the Spring Festival holiday comes the traditional off-peak movie-watching season; during the Qingming holiday, the holiday duration is short, and people traveling to enjoy spring outings divert some audience members, making the overall film market somewhat weak. Second, new film supply is dominated by “inventory-clearing” films with medium and small budgets; at this stage, film distributors also do not want to invest large sums of money into promotional and marketing expenses, nor to produce big-budget masterpieces, resulting in a scarcity of market breakout hits.
