ETH short-term decline of 1.11%: On-chain whale selling and exchange selling pressure drive price correction
From 13:30 to 13:45 (UTC) on 2026-04-08, ETH’s short-term return rate recorded -1.11%. The price range was 2234.72–2265.79 USDT, with a swing of 1.37%. The candlestick data shows that market volatility has intensified, attention has increased significantly, and fund flows along with on-chain unusual activity have become the market focus.
The main driver of this unusual move is that whale address 0xdECF transferred 5,000 ETH (about $15.52 million) to a certain major exchange around the event window, creating a clear short-term sell pressure. Large on-chain inflows to exchanges often indicate holders are preparing to sell. Glassnode data also shows that the net inflow to exchanges surged in sync. With large trades dominating, ETH’s price saw sell-off correlation, and the position structure also changed markedly. Over the past 30 days, addresses holding 1k–10k ETH saw net change turn negative, reflecting the whale cohort’s overall de-risking and further increasing market pressure.
In addition, DeFi TVL has remained at a low level. During the event window, ETH’s total value locked in on-chain DeFi was maintained at about $51 billion. The long-term decline is nearly 48%. Liquidity contraction has not seen an effective rebound, leading to lower market depth. ETF fund flows also showed sustained net outflows. The 30-day SMA indicator suggests that institutional demand has weakened, and spot-market liquidity remains insufficient. ETF outflows and spot sell pressure have reinforced each other, resulting in cross-market liquidity pressure that further amplifies price volatility.
Current short-term risks are significant. It is recommended to focus on indicators such as large whale transfers on-chain, net inflows to exchanges, DeFi TVL, and ETF net flow. For key near-term support, watch the 2230 USDT area, as well as changes in on-chain inflows and institutional demand. The market still faces sell-pressure risk, so it is advised to monitor relevant on-chain behavior and shifts in market sentiment in real time.
