China News Service, Beijing, April 6 (reporter Xu Jing) Data released by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism on April 6 shows that during this year’s Qingming Festival holiday (April 4 to 6), Beijing received 10.016 million visitors, a year-on-year increase of 4.4%; and it generated tourism spending of 12.34 billion yuan (RMB, the same applies hereafter), a year-on-year increase of 7.4%.

During the Qingming Festival holiday, outings featuring a focus on quality and experiential experiences became the mainstream trend in Beijing’s culture and tourism market, with distinct characteristics such as a booming springtime economy and deep integration of culture, commerce, and tourism. In terms of inbound tourism, during the Qingming Festival holiday, Beijing received 102,000 inbound visitors and achieved tourism spending of 1.11 billion yuan, with year-on-year increases of 47.8% and 49.2%, respectively.

Relying on the cultural connotations of the Qingming solar term and Beijing’s springtime culture and tourism resources, Beijing has rolled out a range of diversified culture and tourism products, making short-distance micro getaways and leisure trips to nearby suburbs the mainstream choice for travel. The Beijing urban area and surrounding districts coordinated to carry out more than 400 cultural events such as Qingming poetry sessions, reading promotion activities, and traditional handicraft making; it also launched a series of activities titled “Flowers Bloom in April, Enjoy Beijing,” creating 10 “Stroll through Beijing” flower-viewing themed routes, and an online flower-viewing map provides visitors with one-stop smart services for flower viewing, getting around, dining, and more.

During the Qingming Festival holiday, Beijing held 237 commercial performances across 970 shows, attracting 262,000 attendees; compared with the previous year, the number of shows and the number of attendees both increased by 10.6% and 5.6%, respectively. “View flowers in the daytime and watch plays at night” has become a new trend in springtime leisure in the capital.

In response to the phenomenon in which spring break holidays in various places align with the Qingming Festival holiday, Beijing has created 10 spring-break Qingming study tour routes themed around learning, covering diverse topics including the culture of ancient capitals, so that teenagers can experience Beijing’s cultural heritage and vitality in an immersive way.
