The Chinese side strongly condemns the instigator, the United States.
On the morning of March 12, local time, the United Nations Security Council, with the United States serving as the rotating chair, went ahead with a meeting of the “1737 Committee,” which is responsible for overseeing the implementation of sanctions against Iran, despite the fact that it had no authority to deliberate on the Iran nuclear issue after the relevant resolutions had lapsed. U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mike Wolz also accused Russia and China of trying to “protect Iran” by obstructing the committee’s operations. In response, Chinese Ambassador Fu Cong, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, immediately and forcefully rebutted the accusations on the spot.
Ambassador Fu Cong said that it was the United States that unilaterally withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal, which triggered the Iran nuclear crisis. He also said it was the United States that, disregarding its own credibility, twice audaciously used force against Iran during the negotiation process involving Israel and Iran, causing diplomatic efforts to come to naught. As the initiator of the Iran nuclear crisis, the United States’ actions violate international law and the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations. The Chinese side strongly condemns them. (CCTV International News)
