According to Reuters, on April 8, an account sold a total of 8,600 lots of Brent and WTI crude oil futures during the non-active settlement period, with a nominal value of approximately $950 million. About two to three hours later, Trump announced a two-week ceasefire with Iran, and crude oil futures initially dropped about 15% at Wednesday's open, falling below $100 per barrel. Such large transactions are usually executed in parts to reduce market impact, and concentrated trading after settlement is relatively rare. A similar situation occurred on March 23: about 15 minutes before Trump announced the delay in striking Iran's energy facilities, a market sell of approximately $500 million took place, and oil prices subsequently dropped about 15% as well. In response, Congressman Ritchie Torres has written to the SEC and CFTC, urging investigations into the suspicious transactions.
