Just saw the news - Trump actually followed through and pardoned Ross Ulbricht. The Silk Road founder is getting released after spending years in prison on a life sentence.

Trump announced it on Truth Social, saying he did it in honor of Ulbricht's mother and the Libertarian movement that backed him. The whole thing went down pretty quickly - one minute he's locked up, next thing his mom gets a call saying it's done.

For context, Ulbricht was convicted back in 2015 for running the Silk Road darknet marketplace. The crypto community has been arguing about his case for years - a lot of people pointed out that he didn't personally sell drugs, he just operated the platform where transactions happened. That distinction mattered to a lot of folks in the space.

What's interesting is the market reaction. Bitcoin jumped pretty much immediately after the announcement hit - sitting around $73.36K now. Makes sense given what this signals. Trump basically just proved he's serious about the crypto-friendly promises he made during the campaign. First the pardon, now people are watching to see what else comes - there's been talk about a strategic bitcoin reserve and way more relaxed crypto regulation overall.

SpaceX is already holding over 8,000 BTC in Coinbase custody too, so you can see how deep this goes into the broader ecosystem. Anyway, wild timing with everything else happening. The Ulbricht pardon was definitely the move that got the most attention from the community today.
