ME News report: On April 11 (UTC+8), the US and the Iran delegation held negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan, but both sides faced red-line challenges on three key issues, making the negotiation prospects highly uncertain. On the issue of the Strait of Hormuz, the US demanded full opening, while Iran insisted it needed to coordinate with its armed forces and has already begun charging oil tanker transit fees. If the US were to accept Iran’s control, it would be viewed as a strategic failure. On the issue of enriched uranium, the US demanded complete abandonment and may resort to force, while Iran insisted on retaining a certain level of enrichment capability. Experts say that removing underground facilities is very difficult. Regarding Hezbollah in Lebanon, Iran hopes to include it in the ceasefire agreement; however, after the agreement was announced, Israel launched airstrikes against Lebanon, and the ceasefire was described as not covering Lebanon. The fact that the two sides’ interests are not fully aligned is said to threaten the stability of the agreement. A former White House envoy said that the foundation of this ceasefire is fragile, and that both sides have made no substantial concessions. (Source: MLion)
