Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles spoke in parliament on March 31, explaining Spain’s refusal to support the U.S. and Israel’s military actions against Iran. Robles reiterated that Spain is “completely opposed to the unilateral, unjustified aggression by the U.S. and Israel against Iran outside the framework of international law.” Robles noted that Spain cannot accept “two countries dragging the whole world into their war” and that “the United States and Israel cannot decide, without considering anyone, what kind of peace the world should have or what rules should apply.” Robles also emphasized that Spain remains firmly committed to NATO’s framework and the principles of multilateralism, rejecting any interpretation of the current position as a wavering of relations with allies. After the U.S. and Israel launched attacks on Iran, the Spanish government clearly refused to authorize U.S. military activities related to airstrikes on Iran at the two military bases in Spain—Rota and Morón de la Frontera—and banned military aircraft involved in related military operations from using its airspace.
