Just realized I keep seeing this goat emoji next to athletes' names and never really understood why until now. Turns out GOAT doesn't mean actual goat lol - it's an acronym for 'Greatest of All Time.' Makes so much more sense.

So basically when people call someone a GOAT in sports, they're saying they're the best to ever do it. It's this huge honor that only gets given to a select few athletes. In football specifically, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are THE GOATs. These two have been going at it since they were 17 and they're still competing even now. Their rivalry has been insane for like 20 years.

What makes them deserve this title is honestly ridiculous. We're talking about scoring 40+ goals consistently for 17 years straight, plus hundreds of assists and trophies. No other football player has maintained that level of performance into their late 30s. That's why the whole world basically agreed they're the GOATs.

Interestingly, Messi even had a goat on his jersey sleeve at some point - literally wearing the symbol. Beyond football, you've got Roger Federer, Michael Jordan, and Tom Brady who've also been called GOATs in their respective sports.

Now there's talk about whether Erling Haaland could eventually challenge who is goat status if he keeps this up. But honestly, matching what Messi and Ronaldo did seems almost impossible. They set the bar crazy high.
