Have you ever wondered what trading futures is and why people say it's dangerous? I will share what I’ve learned from real-world experience.
What is trading futures? Simply put, it is a leveraged trading method on crypto exchanges. You can predict that the price will go up (called Long) or down (called Short). If your prediction is correct, you make a profit; if wrong, you incur a loss. Almost all major exchanges offer this feature, although not all coins have futures.
But why do people warn about trading futures? Because leverage can go up to x100, and this is a double-edged sword. Leverage means borrowing money from the exchange to increase your trading capital. For example: if you have $1, using x100 means you have $100 to trade. It sounds attractive, but it also means a 100-fold loss if you’re wrong.
What is the biggest risk when trading futures? It’s liquidation of assets (getting wiped out). When you choose the wrong direction and your loss reaches the original capital, your assets will be fully liquidated. You will lose 100% of your initial funds. That’s why many beginners suffer heavy losses.
So how can you protect yourself? I have a few rules based on my experience:
First, always use Stop Loss (SL) and Take Profit (TP). SL is an automatic cut-loss point, TP is an automatic take-profit point. All exchanges provide these features, and you should use them regularly.
Second, never use too high leverage. If trading Bitcoin, only go up to x5 or below. If trading Ethereum or altcoins, x3 or below. This helps give you more room to withstand losses.
Third, split your capital into multiple rounds. Instead of investing all at once, divide it into parts. This way, you have a chance to recover if the first trade results in a loss.
Fourth, pay attention to liquidation levels. Try to set this as far away as possible to avoid sudden liquidation.
What is trading futures in summary? It’s a powerful tool but very dangerous if not well understood. The rules above are just tips from my experience, not investment advice. If you’re a beginner, do thorough research before stepping in. I always monitor market signals and will share more in upcoming posts.
