The UK will scrutinize cryptocurrency donations to investigate political party funding issues

PANews December 17 News, according to Bloomberg, the UK will investigate the role of cryptocurrencies as part of a broader review of the country’s political financing laws. This review was triggered by a bribery case involving a politician from the UK Reform Party. On Tuesday, UK Community Affairs Minister Steve Reed stated in the House of Commons that the review will examine foreign influence on UK politics. The review is scheduled to submit a report by the end of March, and its findings will be incorporated into government plans to advance election and democracy-related legislation next year. Previously, there were concerns within the UK about the vulnerability of its democratic system to foreign donations and bribery. The announcement of this review is based on those concerns. Last month, Nathan Gill, a former Welsh leader of the UK Reform Party, pleaded guilty to accepting bribes while serving as a Member of the European Parliament, in exchange for making statements favorable to Russia. He was sentenced to 10 and a half years in prison.
