Vitalik: Ethereum should prioritize increasing bandwidth rather than pursuing ultra-low latency, as L2 will play a key role in the long term

ETH2,11%
ZKP2,45%

PANews January 8 News, Vitalik Buterin posted on X platform that compared to reducing latency, increasing bandwidth is safer and more reliable. With the help of PeerDAS and ZKP, Ethereum scalability can be improved by thousands of times, and this does not conflict with decentralization. Latency, however, is limited by physical laws and real-world conditions, especially to support global home nodes, censorship resistance, and anonymity. He pointed out that reducing latency to the range of 2–4 seconds is a reasonable goal, while applications requiring higher real-time performance (such as AI-driven) will rely on L2 and localized extensions like “city chains.”
