NYC vs Empower: Control vs Disruption
At first glance, a lawsuit against a ride-hailing app seems small compared to global tensions.
But I don’t see it that way.
This is a microcosm of a much larger conflict: systems versus disruption.
Technology moves fast. It doesn’t ask for permission, it doesn’t wait for regulation, it doesn’t follow traditional structures. It builds first, then forces the system to react.
And the system always reacts.
New York City suing Empower is not just legal action. It is an attempt to reassert control over something that refuses to be easily controlled.
But here’s the paradox:
The more systems try to regulate disruption, the more they reveal their own limitations.
Because innovation doesn’t slow down.
It adapts.
