US-Senatorinnen Elizabeth Warren und Andy Kim haben das Finanzministerium aufgefordert, die ausländischen Investitionen in das Kryptowährungsprojekt World Liberty Financial (WLFI) zu untersuchen, aufgrund von Bedenken hinsichtlich nationaler Sicherheitsrisiken und sensibler Daten.
Laut einem Schreiben an den Finanzminister hat ein von den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten unterstützter Fonds 49 % der Anteile an WLFI für etwa 500 Millionen US-Dollar gekauft, kurz vor der Amtseinführung von Donald Trump. Diese Vereinbarung könnte den ausländischen Fonds zum größten Anteilseigner des Unternehmens machen.
Die Investition wird mit Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan und dem Technologieunternehmen G42 in Verbindung gebracht. Die Abgeordneten warnen, dass die Struktur der Transaktion es ausländischen Regierungen ermöglichen könnte, auf Finanz- und Personendaten der Amerikaner zuzugreifen.
CFIUS wird derzeit gebeten, die Angelegenheit zu prüfen und bis zum 5. März eine Rückmeldung zu geben.
