Federal judge orders the Trump administration to fully distribute November food assistance funds.
Jin10 Data, November 7 — On November 6, local time, U.S. District Judge John McConnell of Rhode Island ruled that the Trump administration must fully distribute Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to tens of millions of Americans in November. Previously, the Trump administration had stated it planned to allocate only $4.65 billion in emergency funds to provide partial assistance. Judge McConnell noted that this approach failed to meet the court’s previous order requiring the government to “fully ensure the payment of public welfare benefits,” and therefore demanded immediate full implementation. Subsequently, the Trump administration decided to appeal the federal judge’s ruling, which requires them to fully distribute food assistance benefits by Friday.
