The company sent me to Africa for mining for three months. When I returned, I found my workstation gone, and even my OA account was deactivated๐.
At the beginning of the year, the company mentioned a "gold-plating project" and sent me to Nigeria to oversee the mine.
Everyone else refused, but I foolishly raised my hand: I'll go!
Three months without signal, eating cassava with Uncle Black every day.
Finally, when the contract ended, the first thing I did after returning to China was to clock in at the company.
Downstairs, I found the door locked, with a "For Rent" sign on the glass.
I was stunned for a moment and called the director:
โHey, has the company been sealed?โ
The director lowered his voice: โMoved... forgot to notify you.โ
Me: โThen how do I get paid for these three months?โ
Director: โWeโll talk about it when you return.โ
At the new location, face recognition accessโfailed.
The receptionist girl looked me up and down: โWho are you looking for?โ
โI, Tech Department 008, just back from a business trip.โ
She typed on the keyboard for a while: โThereโs no such person in the system... Are you sure you havenโt resigned?โ
I turned to stare at the director.
He was holding a coffee, silently turning to look out the window.
I sarcastically said, โOh, boss, the view outside is pretty nice, huh?โ
He took a sip of water, too afraid to look back.
I added, โMy skinโs tanned from Africaโdoes it match the companyโs new logo?โ
He took another sip of water.
Later, HR quietly told me:
Three months ago, due to departmental restructuring, I was on the list. The director said โwait until heโs back,โ and then forgot about it.
The ultimate tragedy for an employee isnโt being laid off,
Itโs being laid off and not even being notified.
