According to PANews, on July 26, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Market Surveillance Division issued guidance prohibiting prediction market platforms from over-relying on template contracts in event certification. The regulator specifically named Kalshi, Coinbase, Polymarket, and Crypto.com, requiring each event contract class to include specific terms, settlement methods, data sources, and compliance analysis rather than generic submissions. The CFTC stated that simplified filing practices have weakened its ability to assess compliance with core regulatory principles. On the same day, the CFTC also approved extending Kraken Derivatives Exchange's dormant registration status, allowing the platform to preserve the option to resume operations following its acquisition of Bitnomial.
